Executive Director Carol Berger Retires from PACS

Berger is only the second Executive Director in the 47-year history of PACS.  Louis Gould, founder and the first Executive Director, retired in 2002.

“Carol’s passion for helping people in our community will be missed,” said Fred Hubler, President of PACS Board. “She has nurtured relationships with many of our donors, supporters, and corporate sponsors. On behalf of the entire Board, we wish her much success in her future endeavors.”

During Berger’s tenure as Executive Director, she helped raise awareness about the challenges of food insecurity and brought together many community leaders and individuals to raise the funds necessary to help local individuals and families. In particular, Berger worked tirelessly on PACS’ signature event Empty Bowls.

In 2006, Artisan Gallery Café owner Richard Holck suggested the Empty Bowls event, benefitting PACS. Over the years, his vision—combined with Berger’s leadership—brought the fundraising event to life. Berger collaborated with the entire Holck family and developed strong working relationships with area potters, schools, and businesses. As a result, Empty Bowls became PACS signature event and one of the largest in the area.

“We have done a tremendous amount of good work here in Phoenixville,” said Berger. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and particularly grateful to the amazing staff and volunteers who keep PACS running on a daily basis. I look forward to seeing what they accomplish in the future.”
